Swiss Kindergartners to be Taught About 'Pleasures of Sex' From a 'Sex Box'

Elementary school children, including kindergartners, in Basel, Switzerland, will reportedly be learning about the pleasures of sex [are you serious?!] through the use of toys made to look like male and female genitalia, according to reports from Swiss media.

The toys are part of a kit to be given to teachers that includes dolls, books, and wooden penises, among other things.

In an interview with Swiss newspaper Blick, Basel education minister Christoph Eymann revealed that officials had received more than 3,000 letters of complaint sent in by parents who think the sex education program goes too far [ya think?!].

Eymann said that, unfortunately, the education of children on the subject of sex had been left to the schools since parents were not doing their jobs at home [it isn't anyone's job to talk to a five year old about sex].

When asked about the program's aim of teaching children that "touch can be pleasurable," Eymann said the actual objective [then why not teach the "actual" objective?] was to help children differentiate between good and bad touches.

"It's about protecting the sexual integrity of children," [what in the heck does that even mean?] he said, adding that it was necessary for educators to do something to help prevent sexual violence against children by helping children protect themselves.

Eymann said that he was taking parents' complaints seriously and although the curriculum would be reviewed, the program would go forward.

As for the "sex box" teaching kit, Eymann said, “It was no doubt stupid to call it a ‘sex box’ – we will change that."

So...where's the actual story, or is this some sort of blown out of proportion version propagated from the right-wing blogosphere?

Go to www.google.com and enter any keywords found above that you find relevant including but not limited to the name of the Swiss newspaper and the education minister. I trust you to formulate your own opinion from the information returned by your query.

Well, Blick is basically their version of the National Enquirer. I copied and pasted the text, and all the sites linked were either right-wing blogs or christian blogs.

Maybe that's because they are the only ones who see a problem with showing dildos to kindergarteners? Maybe you don't have a problem with it. Maybe you wouldn't mind your daughter learning about such things w/o your consent. So be it. I do and that's why I posted the story.

Actually, I'm not defending the actions. I feel that sexual education should be something taught by parents. Forgive me if I find the entire story highly suspicious, given the sources.

This is a blatantly misleading interpretation of the story. Where the heck do you get such a distorted interpretation of reality??

This is really all about teaching kids to reject abusive touching. The same stuff we taught our kids when they were young. Don't you tell your kids to not let anyone touch there, even if it feels good??

Here's the relevant quote:

“It is not about 'touch me, feel me'. We want to tell the children that there is contact that they may find pleasurable, but some that they should say ’no’ to. Kids can unfortunately can become victims of sexual violence already at playschool age.“

I did not, nor did my wife, teach my daughter about "anyone touching her".
That is because she was never with anyone except a few family members.
I was the sole bread winner for the family for the first 5 years of her life. That is the way to raise a child. I worked my ass off, so my wife could stay home and raise the child and not some child care business. When you have children, it is your responsibility, not the government or any other stranger. And my morals paid off, as she tested out at a 7th grade level when she was 5 years old. Graduated high school at 16 and got a free academic ride at SU for her/our efforts.
To quote Dean Wormer...
"Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life!".

I followed the link and looked at the pictures of this so-called "sex box"...yuck!!! If you want to teach young children about inappropriate touches then that is easily done without such graphic representation. In my day it was simply accomplished by talking about "private parts." There was no need to show full size models of organs and definitely no need to speak about pleasurable sex to a young kid. That is borderline sick.
