Well heck.. If we can tolerate Christianity, why not the Muslim faith too?

It's ironic that the people here in the US who most protest using the Quran as any sort of legal guide are the ones who would be most happy with using the Bible in the same way...

Yet these books are basically filled with the same sort of stuff. They both put women in a rather low place (e.g. submit to husband,...), they both are rather anti-intellectual (no critical thinking skills wanted here)...

In fact, with our increased scientific knowledge of the true world, anyone with really good critical thinking skills will soon reject both.

Because the Bible doesn't call for us to kill people.

@"It's ironic that the people here in the US who most protest using the Quran as any sort of legal guide are the ones who would be most happy with using the Bible in the same way... "

Wrong. Romans 13:1 "Let everyone be subject to governing authorities." or 1 Peter 2:13 "Submit yourself for the Lord's sake to every human authority." The Bible teaches us to respect the rule of law and government.

@"They both put women in a rather low place (e.g. submit to husband,...)"

I love how people who know nothing about the Bible cherry pick verses to try to make their point. The rest of the verse says "as you do to the Lord." The Lord loves you and treats you perfectly therefore do not resist his kindness. It does not mean submit to a husband even if he is disrespectful or mean or abusive. Two verses later it says "Husbands love your wives."

@"they both are rather anti-intellectual (no critical thinking skills wanted here)..."

And you're basing that on what?

@"In fact, with our increased scientific knowledge of the true world, anyone with really good critical thinking skills will soon reject both."

Tell me how your critical thinking does that. Only a fallible, prideful, egomaniac would think themselves to have all the answers and know the meaning of life.

@TS "Tell me how your critical thinking does that. Only a fallible, prideful, egomaniac would think themselves to have all the answers and know the meaning of life."

No.. Critical thinking gets us the the point where we pretty much know what we don't know... where we have the ability to honestly assess claims made by others.

If someone claims the Easter Bunny delivers eggs on Easter, there's a method for determining the likelihood of that. If someone claims that there's a God in heaven watching over you, there's a method for that too. The unbiased use of these methods lead to Atheism.

Science requires evidence, whereas faith requires a lack of evidence. And that's why there's a fundamental conflict between science and faith.

Then you shouldn't use one to explain the other.

The only conflict exists in your definitions of 'evidence' vs 'faith' but putting both science and religious faith into practice doesn't present any conflicts. The two easily peacefully coexist.

"The two easily peacefully coexist."

Only for some people.

I think that it is fair to put the claims made by a church to investigation (and that's where critical thinking skills come into play...).

For example, the theory of quantum mechanics (uncertainty principle) is in direct conflict with the concept of an all knowing God. The universe cannot be both deterministic and non-deterministic. One of those needs to be wrong. This is what troubled Einstein, and is perhaps his largest failure.

An easier example is what the Church says about the age of the universe. Some churches run away when new scientific evidence comes to light, others cling to unsupportable claims with the hopes that the flock doesn't engage in critical thinking.

I don't see peaceful coexisting, especially when the church goes political and dogma becomes dangerous.

But I completely agree that the muslim religion can be dangerous. My basic point is that any extremism in any religion can be corrosive. None are exceptionally good or bad.
