Tar Balls Wash Ashore in Key West

Great. Just Great. That only took what, a month or so? And how long is this things supposed to gush before BP has a viable solution of how to stop it? Several more months? So I guess we can rest assured the oil will eventually reach the east coast beaches? This sickens me. But on the plus side, I guess that means everyone will be rushing to Ocean City when FL, GA, SC, & NC beaches are closed. It could be a real boon, though not exactly how anyone would want it to happen.

They are now saying too that the oil slick itself has reached the "loop current" is forecasted to reach Miami by Memorial Day weekend.

The Skinny: The U.S. Coast Guard says 20 tar balls have been found off Key West, Fla., but the agency stopped short of saying whether they came from a massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.



Some 5 million gallons of crude has spewed into the Gulf and tar balls have been washing ashore in several states along the coast.
 

Scientists are worried that oil is getting caught in a major ocean current that could carry it through the Florida Keys and up the East Coast.

Gulf Oil Spill Enters Fourth Week...No End In Sight

This is beyond sad. The largest oil spill EVER, and it's only getting bigger. And realistically, no one has any idea how to stop it. The alternate wells they are going to drill will take about two months. TWO MONTHS! The oil slick will probably be in Key West by then. Anyone out there who subscribes to the "Drill, Baby, Drill" philosophy, let this be your "crude awakening." My new motto is "Clean, Baby, Clean." Is there anyone out there who still believes drilling off the coast of MD, VA, DE or any other East Coast state is a good idea? Just imagine this happening here, for months on end. Disaster doesn't even come close to describing it.
