Atheist Converts After Mocking Prayer to Win $1m Lottery is Answered

A self-confessed atheist, Sal Bentivegna, 28, who did not previously believe in God, had sarcastically asked his mother to “ask your God for a million dollars” she lost money playing slots in Atlantic City.

However, his mother Gloria Bentivegna, follows the Catholic faith, and staying true to her belief refused to ask God for such a thing.

Taking his joke further, Sal then prayed out aloud saying, “God, I don’t know if you’re real or not, but if you are there, please let my mother win a million dollars.”

He added, “If Jesus wants me to believe in him, that’s what he’ll do”.

The following day his mother bought a “Lotto Tree” of unscratched instant win tickets from her Church’s charity auction. Sal was then left absolutely stunned when he found out his mother had won a million.

Realizing that the odds of his mother winning were so farfetched, Sal has now become a firm believer.

He testified, “I can’t shrug off that Jesus had a hand in it.”

“No pun intended, but it was a Godsend,” he said.

Gloria Bentivegna, reflecting on what had happened, is thankful to God for her winnings, but even more thankful for her son’s conversion. She said: “'God performed two miracles, a true miracle.”

By winning New York’s Sweet Million game, Gloria Bentivegna, a single mother on disability will now receive $50,000 ($33,000 after taxes) every year for the next 20 years.

"...a true miracle."

If the mother is a catholic, then why wasn't the son raised as a catholic? It makes no sense.

Apart from excommunication, there are no ex-catholics, only bad catholics.

Only believers and non-believers.

@atgr "Only believers and non-believers."

In your dreams. Even the best Catholics have hours of doubt. Go read Mother Theresa's writings...

I'd never make such a "deal" with an imaginary friend, nor attribute a result to such after the fact. If you want to impress me with a true miracle, find something that wont happen otherwise. Someone wins the lottery every time. ...nothing rare there.

And if God is willing to do wealth distribution to promote belief in him, then why is he so awfully bad at that?

This story had nothing to do with atheism.

OOPS! Looks like a moron just got a million. I have to figure out how to get that flying guys image on a waffle. Seems to be more stupid people in the world now than at any other time.
