Police involved in NHL hockey hit.....

This hit was badly timed or then again maybe not??? I love hockey but hate seeing a player get hurt...

Shat, man..I know you guys on the ES//anywhere south of Niagara Falls may not be familiar with Zdeno Chara, but he is pretty much like Chewbacca on skates {at least 6' 6"" 260??}-any dumbass knew that before the pre-game skate. There was nothing wrong with that hit. If only that dude tried to take that puck alone across the blueline against NJ Devils Scott Stevens and Keith Daneyko..book 'em dano...he would be in a hospital.

Oh yeah I know ... the dude is HUGE!!!!!! The hit was clean but badly timed since he hit the bar at the end of the glass..

R1.I think one of my pipe-hitting blue-line buds turned Crosby Stehlcanrememmmer Wyatthitmi into a cowardly gimp during that Winter Classic game. Have you checked out my ongoing coverage of when Boston gets together with Montreal, and such, though!!

It is like any tavern/pub across the palnet; make sure you have linesmen, witnessess..well, let the boys be boys...and the cowards go read Pravda..

Clean or not, it looked like he had ill intent.

TS..are we speaking of 'mens rea' during commencement of a Friday Happy Hour?? One does not discuss mens rea/state of mind with a disgruntled Saskatchewan/Moose Knuckle Wookie trying to establish control of a puck. It just isn't good policy...and Bob Probert once ripped the head off my protocal droid.

Yea.. I can see charges being filed. Reckless endangerment. ...and why isn't there padding on that hard edge?

And don't give me any of the "It's hockey" crap. I used to play hockey.

Yeah and I can play MacArthur Park on bagpipes, Daisy. Don't cross my f'in blue line. No true hockey player would advocate for charges, you wuss. Sounds like you need the pad.

BTW-I looked again...I posted it on my blog-these two teams put up 192 penalty minutes last time-really good fights. And Montreal can bite me beccause those savages often boo pour own national anthem. Go Bruins!!

@BL "Sounds like you need the pad."

Yea.. When I was a A league goalie.

...and what did you ever play? Seems like you're just a watcher now. At least I'm still out there using my muscles...

"Go Bruins!!"

LOL.. I grew up as a Bruins and Celtics fan. ...used to be a Boston Garden urchin up in the cheap seats.

What? You need to see my varsity letters to believe I played sports?

I still use my old Super Tacks. It's great when my lakes freeze over. Northern one freezes hard every year. Southern one has good ice for a short time almost every year.

Have you ever volunteered to cure global amnesia?? Like, really, hard-core amnesia? Like, even in Haiti, where they have no anesthesia prior to field amputation-a little baby child says, lord, if only that wonderful LE could come tell me a bogus, rather vague story about his glory days during the Crimean War when he often thought of becoming a golf club, I believe I would be relaxed/in a von bulow coma enough for you to saw my gangrenous leg off. I gotta' tell you, a lotta dysfunctional people I've met aren't this desperate to not actually impress me.

Back to he subject at hand....I thought the hit was a bit late but definitely part of the game. Do we now start arresting people for bench clearing brawls when a pitcher accidentally hits the batter with an errand knuckle ball? If that player had gotten right up and walked away from the incident there would be no issue now. Hmmmm. I wonder if we can charge a boxer with murder if his opponent suffers a fatal head injury during a bout.

ARN-I think arrests/charges should be properly made if the guy {or, shout out Title 9...the girl}swings his/her stick/bat as a weapon. Didn't Caps Dino Ciccerelli get charged when he was on another team?? Otherise let these guys drop the gloves at center ice and get it out of their systems before they start to goon it out. You take the hitting/fighting/grittiness {as Lemiuex desires because he is a girl} out of an already fragile mostly American audience-based and we pretty much just have The Johnny Weir Capades....and 40,000 empty seats each night.

Agreed Bill. You have to draw the line somewhere. But I didn't see where the guy in this incident crossed that line. Did you?

Oh, heck no...and though big enough to blot out the sun-Chara is not a "goon type." In fact, I'm not doing it to draw hits, but the Montreal//Bruin feud has been escalating all year-they played a month ago and put up 192 penalty minutes. I brought the link with all the fights, and a list of the specific offenses at AITC. The goalies fought each other at one point, and during the very end there were 4 really good fights, going on simultaneously. I also have no problem with that-they all WANTED a piece of each other and the linesmen were there if anybody was getting beaten to a pulp. I moved the link back up at AITC, along with some pre-Stanley Cup thoughts regarding the game's best modern day defensemen. Scott Stevens work patrolling the blue line with LEGAL hip checks is the stuff you teach your own kids. Hockey is for the big boys-if you can't hang, there is always curling...you gotta' bring your own broom, though!
