Has a price tag been attached to the life of a little girl?

The chickens of a bad economy have finally come home to roost

Yes, things are tough all over as they say. But could any of us have ever imagined that they would be so tough that justice would not be served? Could we have ever imagined that the lack of funds would affect the way justice is served right here at home? Well it has.

Today the murdering child molester Thomas Leggs will stand before a circuit court judge in Elkton, Maryland and plead guilty to killing little Sarah Foxwell in exchange for life in prison without the possibility of parole. The States Attorney for Wicomico County has offered the defense a plea bargain because they chose not to spend the money necessary to fully prosecute it. Where are the priorities of our elected officials? The evidence is there to convict Leggs. The members of the law enforcement community involved in this case crossed all their "T's" and dotted all their "I's"  but the legal wrangling by the defense will drag this out with appeal after appeal.

I feel we have been lied to. The only fitting punishment for Thomas Leggs is death.  Isn't that what they promised us? Isn't that what we were told would happen? The political fallout from this decision will settle everywhere. No one involved will escape it.

Sarah Foxwell became our own daughter as we developed a kindred spirit with her family. We all searched in earnest to bring her home for Christmas. Unfortunately that never happened. But because of money, this animal will enjoy many Christmases. Every Christmas morning we will all reflect on the precious little life that was brutally taken from our community.

I pray that Sarah knows that the face of politics cannot cover the memory of what happened to her on that horrible day. I pray she knows that a community pulled together in a way that is unprecedented in the lives of most of us. And that although it appears that money got in the way of true justice, the people in the community that she pulled together would never place a monetary value on her little life that brought so much light to so many.

This is a very well written post and my sentiments exactly. There will never be another Christmas morning that I don't think about Sarah. My only other thought is that because of the politics in Maryland, the death penalty would never have been carried out and this plea deal is an assurance that the monster will never see the light of day again. RIP Sarah.

Everyone only THINKS they've been let down. Wait until everyone finds out that Sarah was actually found on 12/24 NOT 12/25. The Sheriff and States Attorney had us all show up on Christmas morning to search for her and generate false hope. She was located the day before and it is a fact. Ask Davis Ruark or even better, check the court transcripts. You will see the truth. There are many reasons this case wasn't prosecuted.

I'm satisfied with the conviction/sentencing proposal. Even if he were to receive a death sentence, in reality, after exhausting appeals, Leggs would never be put to death in Maryland.

I think, for the family, this probably is the best course of action as to obtain the conviction while not subjecting the family to endless trials and appeals. With no possibility of parole, they will not have to worry about him facing a parole board in the future and the family having to attend each time to keep him locked up.

Very well written. Unlike some other Blog!

Even if a life without parole plea is the outcome, it still may be better for the taxpayer-Maryland is like California [i.e. even if given a Maryland death sentence would never live long enough to see it enacted], after spending uber hundreds of thousands of dollars, in California all they would have done was give this guy a free legal library and at least 1,876 appeals before he would eventually die of old age on the California taxpayers dime. Refer to Ron White on the death penalty-and Google how many people are sitting on California's sentenced death row still awaiting multiple, redundant taxpayer paid appeals, with those in Texas. Texas is on the money here-if your ass fucks up so much they have put in a lethal injection EZ Pass lane. seriously-check out the differences between MD/Cali and Texas/Virginia.

If she was found on 12/24 then the other blogger was right when it was posted. I don't really care about any of this. What I do care about is making sure Leggs never takes another breath of air in freedom. I pray for his early demise. I pray he will never have another night of restful sleep. I pray his family will live in peace in their new location. I pray everyone can move on with their lives. I pray this never happens again, to anyone. I pray.

A lot of us feel like today is the day for another bad seed to finally pay the sin toll. I hope they take that toupee douche bitch out in handcuffs.

Where can we get the full statement from Mrs. Wechsler? I'd love to see it in full. We could also get the blogs to band together to post it on their sites!

I'm sure somehow this is what Albero wants. Any publicity is good they say.

We will see what happens next.

He has come completely unhinged he wrote it himself putting you in quotes and than it was like a unabomber word salad. Also answered his own letter about 18 times under anonymous. I think maybe it is time he is considered for mandatory evaluation. Not for his sake but for our community.

Balanced Libra ecoed my thinking exactly. Everyone wanted Leggs dead, but everyone also knew, that enforcement of the death penalty would never have taken place in the State of Maryland. With that thought in mind, then the family should be the major concern for the procecusion because consideration for their thinking about punishment coupled with their tragic lose should be the only real voice that matters and they wanted life for Thomas Leggs. If you just stop and empathize with their feelings and position, you'll realize we should be silent for once. They're truely hurting and after all this time, they all deserve a little peace. God bless Sarah Foxwell and all who loved her. Amen

I have no doubt that Sarah was found on 12/24. As a political move, Mike Lewis called the community together to search. They were sent everywhere but where the body was. I had friends who went and searched on their own evern they people were told not to. A red ribbon was found on the property where she was found indicating that it had already been searched. The red ribbon was a nice little gimmick, wasn't it? Well thought out and useful. I am very bitter about this. I did not celebrate Christmas with my children as I usually do. My children did not have a joyous happy day. Don't get me wrong, I would do it all again, but I am angry that it didn't have to be that way. How did Joe Albero know? He was with Mike Lewis at the command post on 12/24 (not out searching like everyone else)and got the info directly from him and/or that agency.

I wonder why an Amber Alert was not sent out until several hours later after a call from a family member finally prompted it.
